| Ellen Grigoni, epitome of sisu (home) |
In the summer of 1978, WDIO/WIRT-TV was sold to Harcort-Brace-Jovanovich; Ellen's department was eliminated. Her cousin, flamboyant businessman Peter Nygard, hired her to manage the manufacturing office of his woman's apparel line Tan Jay in Gardena, CA. With only days to pack a trailer and begin the drive, her farewell and bon voyage party was the start of big changes. From shortly after opening to its sale to Harcourt, Ellen worked with committment and passion to make the station prosper. |
